Protecting Your Confidential Information: FOIA Exemption 4 for Government Contractors

  • 15 Sep 2022
  • 2:00 PM

The Freedom of Information Act allows government agencies to release any record in their possession unless one of nine exemptions applies. Exemption #4—the focus of this webinar—protects information considered “trade secrets and commercial or financial information obtained from a person that is privileged or confidential.” Any government contractor providing confidential information to the government should be mindful of potential FOIA disclosures to protect their assets. This webinar will discuss the FOIA process, strategies for responding to letters notifying contractors that its information may be released, and best practices for protecting confidential information before a FOIA request is made. Join Kevin Barnett, counsel in PilieroMazza’s Government Contracts Group, as he discusses how to protect your company’s confidential information from release under FOIA, whether responding to FOIA Submitter Notification Letters or advising on and intervening in FOIA litigation.
